Madhava & The Kerala School of Astronomy & Mathematics
Two and a half centuries prior to Newton, Gregory, and Leibniz, Madhava formulated infinite series expansions for trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, arctan). He discovered the power series approximations that still form the bedrock of computational algorithms today. We inherit this tradition of radical mathematical independence.
The Battle of Colachel & Maritime Perimeter Sovereignty
The Kingdom of Travancore defeated the Dutch East India Company—the first recorded instance of an Asian sovereign maritime power decisively routing an organized European colonial fleet.
